A place is defined by its identity, relationships and history, while a space that eludes these dimensions becomes a non-place. Drawing on my personal experience and my interest in social issues, I spent a year exploring the suburban imagination.

My dissertation is read in two parts: the even-numbered pages bring the fictional narrative to life, while the odd-numbered pages offer factual insights drawn from the social sciences, urban planning and history.
